If You Give a Mouse a Cookie: Letter C Cookies

If You Give a Mouse a Cookie: Letter C Cookies

We're wrapping up a sweet week with a sweet treat. This morning we made and decorated letter C cookies. Not only was this a great review of our letter of the week but also good practice with hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills, and refining that pincher grasp. Last night I whipped up a super simple Sugar cookie recipe and put it in the fridge for today. (You don't need that long for the dough to firm up; an hour or so would be fine too.) I'll include the recipe at the end of this post if you want it.

When it came time to play I used a generous amount of flour so rolling out the dough wouldn't be sticky. MJ rolled out long "ropes" of sugar cookie dough. She was a pro a this from all her play-doh practice. :) Then I showed her how to form the letter C with her cookie dough. To help the cookies bake evenly I flattened down the dough.

Then came MJ's favorite part, decorating! Is it even possible to make sugar cookies without breaking out the sprinkles?

We had a great time learning and baking together. The kitchen is one of my favorite places to teach my sweet girl. When my (21 mo)Sadie bug woke up from her nap to discover the cookies she squealed "C!!!!!!" I think her little ears have been listening this week too! Thanks for joining in the fun with us this week! I hope it's been as sweet for you as it has been for us! Be sure to keep an eye out for a weekend preview of next week's adventures with the letter D!

Here's a small batch Sugar Cookie recipe (should make about a dozen "C"'s)

  • 1 1/3 C flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 C softened butter
  • 3/4 C sugar
  • 1 medium egg
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  1. Mix together butter, sugar, vanilla and egg; separately mix dry ingredients
  2. Combine the two mixtures
  3. Refrigerate at least an hour or 2 before molding
